Brief History of the Chicken Ranch:

The Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas, was one of the state's most infamous brothels, with a history dating back to the early 1900s. Originally established by Miss Jessie Williams, also known as "Miss Jessie," the establishment operated quietly and discreetly. The brothel gained popularity and flourished for decades, becoming an integral part of the local economy. It was renowned for its secretive yet well-known operations, offering services to numerous high-profile clients, including politicians and law enforcement officers.

In the 1950s, Edna Milton took over the management, further entrenching the Chicken Ranch's reputation. Despite its illegal nature, the brothel maintained a good relationship with local authorities, who often turned a blind eye to its operations due to its economic contributions to the community.

The Chicken Ranch's operations came to a halt in 1973 when investigative reporter Marvin Zindler exposed its existence on a Houston television station. The ensuing public outcry and media attention led to its closure by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The legacy of the Chicken Ranch lives on in popular culture, inspiring the musical and film "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas," which dramatized its colorful history and the eventual shutdown.
